Re-Forming Motherhood Workshop

Are you a happy mom? It’s a harder question than it seems. We love our kids, but sometimes don’t love the job.

It has been said that motherhood is the unwanted child of feminism, but I don’t think it has to be. Feminism and motherhood can and do inform one another in positive ways, and my goal is to make motherhood better for us, our kids, and our families.

Whether you’re a mom-to-be or a mom of five, this 6-week workshop will help you examine why you are the mom you are and how to make the most of that role for who you are today and ten years from now. Through thought-provoking and collaborative workshops, you will (re)define what it means to be a more fulfilled mom. Classes are a mixture of critical consciousness-raising, personal reflection, and stimulating conversations in a cozy coach house called The M(o)ther Space.

One recent workshop participant said of her experience: “I wish this workshop could go on indefinitely! Having the opportunity to discuss various issues affecting women as modern day feminists and mothers, during such an incredibly volatile period of our political and social history, has been very rewarding. I feel I have set off on a new and enriching journey as a woman and I plan on continuing these discussions with my friends, family and most importantly, with my son and daughter.”

So don’t wait! Meet new friends or bring your own, enjoy a great glass of wine and even better conversation, and treat yourself to some time in a thoughtful and inclusive environment where you will feed your brain and nourish your spirit.

Classes are on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This session will run the following dates: Oct. 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8 and 15. You can sign up for all 6 or sign up for 3 and attend whichever three are best for you.

Week 1: A Mother’s Tale: Where We Were, Are, and Will Be as Moms

Week 2: Illusion of Choice: Family vs. Work … and All Points Between

Week 3: Media Moms: Lifting the Fictional Film

Week 4: Waging the War on the Wage Gap: Boosting Your Value

Week 5: What’s a Dude to Do? Getting Dads More Involved

Week 6: Re-forming Motherhood: Building Your Action Plan

The six-week workshop will be offered at $210, the three-week session for $110. Price includes beverages (wine, water, and tea). Some reading will be assigned but is not mandatory for full enjoyment of the course. A sliding scale is offered upon request.

Finally, if you love the content but can’t make the dates work, just let me know. If you have enough friends who want to join, or if there is enough demand for another set of dates, I’m happy to open another section.
